Sergeant Jewitt was one of two airmen killed in the crash of #1 EFTS's Fleet Finch (#4441) aircraft. The accident was the result of a mid-air collision with another Finch aircraft on the approach to landing at the Malton airfield. Leading Aircraftman Charles Richard DICKIE also perished in this incident.

He is also commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
